Nestled in the northwest quadrant of Houston, Texas, the Acres Homes neighborhood spans approximately nine square miles. It is delineated by West Gulf Bank Road and the city limits to the north, Pinemont Drive to the south, North Shepherd Drive to the east, and Alabonson Drive to the west.

Historically, this area has been predominantly African American and was annexed to Houston in 1967 after decades of remaining unincorporated.Situated about ten miles from downtown Houston, Acres Homes offers a unique blend of rural and urban environments. Originally developed during World War I, the community earned its name because the land was sold by the acre, rather than by the lot. Acres Homes a haven for local artists, including painters and sculptors. This creative atmosphere has also caught the eye of developers and notable figures. Among them is hip-hop artist Slim Thug, who grew up in Acres Homes. The community has also produced other prominent figures such as Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, award-winning actress Loretta Devine, and rappers Chamillionaire and Paul Wall.
