Moving is always a life-changing moment. Whether you are moving to a new house, city, or even state, it requires solid preparation. Even though it sounds not easy, don’t worry. We’ve prepared a moving checklist for you that can help you organize everything easily. We’ll help you as well!
Choose your Move-Out Date
It’s better to choose a move-out date in advance and save on bookings, enjoy relaxed planning, and not be in a rush. Even though this tip can help, we sometimes find ourselves in situations where we must rush and plan everything last minute. Don’t worry! We got this as well. Let’s say your move is within a week. Choose the exact date and start preparing according to the plan below. It won’t be as relaxed as doing this a couple of months prior, but we promise to do our best to help you if you choose us as your moving partner.
Create Inventory and To-Do Lists
Go through every room of your house and decide what you'd like to keep and what you can get rid of. Think about whether any items will require special packing – this will help a lot with your upcoming move.
It's also good to keep track of your move-out to-dos, such as:

Submit a change of address to your post office (to keep getting your mail at your new address)

Arrange a storage unit close by to your new location (if one is needed)

Reserve a freight elevator and make arrangements for your moving with your apartment complex or building (such as a parking permit)

Arrange for the cut-off/activation dates for your cable, gas, electricity, water, and garbage
Get a Quote for Your Move
“Trust your movers as you trust your doctor”. Of course, movers can’t help solve health issues, but they can help make your move easy and organized if they are aware of all the details. When you call or send an online request to get a quote it’s important that you provide all the details and answer all related questions. Here’s what movers need to know:

Both addresses (move-out and move-in). If there are any additional stops, like storage or your office, let them know as well. This all is needed to make proper calculations on travel time and distance.

Size of your move. You need to tell about the number of rooms in your house, condo, or rental apartment. Even though it’s a two-bedroom and you are using just 1 bedroom and having just a few items in the other bedroom, tell your movers about the exact size of your place. This will help them to prepare accordingly. Tip: don’t forget about a den or a balcony/patio if you have items stored there.
Get Rid of Unwanted Items
Now that you have an inventory list and know which items go with you to a new place and which you’d like to get rid of, it’s time to start working on this. Here are some ways you can get rid of your items:

Donate your unwanted items: Salvation Army, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity etc.

Sell items: Facebook marketplace, Offerup, Craigslist, or organize a garage sale!
Sell, donate, or just get rid of unwanted items. This will help you to save time and money when moving.
Choose the Right Moving Company
Make sure that the moving company that you choose is:

Licensed

Properly insured

Has an active operating authority (you can check the status of authority online)

Provides you with an estimate with a full price breakdown with no extra or hidden fees.
